Royal Limousine Example..
It’s nice to see a celebrity being environmentally aware, and leading by example. That’s exactly what Prince Albert II of Monaco has done. The Prince recently received the keys to a new royal limousine, a BMW Hydrogen 7.
Prince Albert will be using a vehicle which can be operated practically without emissions in hydrogen mode - only 5 g carbon dioxide in the test cycle. The use of this environmentally friendly limousine is part of the "Sustainable Environmental Protection" programme which is one of the cornerstones of policy in the Principality. The Prince said he would be examining the advantages of the BMW Hydrogen 7 in the coming weeks. He is also very interested in the development of new technologies which help to limit negative effects on the environment.
The BMW Hydrogen 7, the first hydrogen-powered luxury sedan to have successfully completed the series development process and to have been produced in a series of 100 models, is currently being used worldwide by a number of famous personalities. The small BMW Hydrogen 7 series has already covered more than 2 million kilometres in recent months.
The BMW Hydrogen 7 is powered by a monofuel combustion engine – it can run on both hydrogen and petrol. The six-litre V12 Hydrogen 7 can cover a range of about 200km on its 8kg tank of liquid hydrogen. Running the car on petrol gives the vehicle an additional 500km of driving. BMW has been developing hydrogen technology for the past 20 years, stepping up this latest project over the past 5 years.
The development of the BMW Hydrogen 7 is seen as a milestone in the realisation of alternative technologies. BMW identified hydrogen - the most common element in the universe - as the fuel of the future because of ease of supply and its environmental benefits.
By using hydrogen, BMW has already created a sustainable solution today for the individual transport opportunities of tomorrow. As well as Prince Albert II of Monaco, many well-known personalities in the fields of politics, culture and business have already decided to use a BMW Hydrogen 7 as a sign of their commitment to a greener environment.
However, we should not rely on celebrities alone to show us the way to a more sustainable future. We all have a part to play and need to conscious about the environment when making choices about vehicles and energy consumption.
